Sony Nextep Wrist computer of 2020

I remember back in the eighties, when someone wanted to show some concept technology, they would say something like: “By the year 2000, this will be the technology”.
Apparently, 2020 is the new 2000. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen concept technology that has said: “this is the tech of the year 2020″.
This is a bracelet watch/mobile device called the Sony Nextep Computer, which has a pull-out keyboard, as well as an OLED screen.
Now, you’re probably thinking that the white box above the Sony Nextep Computer is the box that the device comes in, but it is, in fact, a hologram. Yes, that’s right, I said hologram. This is one of those technologies that requires holograms in order to be made real. I can’t help but wonder how far away is a holographic society?
I guess we’ll soon find out, and when we do, it will be one of those technologies that just takes over. Sort of like cell phones, texting, Twitter, Facebook, and everything else technological that feels like it sprung up overnight.
Anyway, the Nextep wrist computer is designed by Hiromi Kiriki, and I would love to see it on my wrist. Perhaps I’ll see it at a trade show and get a chance to try it out.

Clingo Neklit

The Neklit sounds a bit like Chiclets trying to acquire a new name to win over young children all over again.  Actually the Neklit is a device that turns your little iPod Nano into an adorable geektastic necklace.  You could also call it a lanyard instead if necklace makes you feel just a little too feminine. These Neklits will let you keep your Nano within arms reach and always in sight.
It holds your iPod securely, so you won’t have to worry about it dropping.  Then if you want to keep the pendant part attached, but not the lanyard, the two easily come apart.  The lanyard itself is adjustable, letting you get it at a comfortable length.  It’s not out just yet, but it’s set to be coming soon.  You can give them your email and they’ll inform you as to when it is actually out though.  Once it is, you can pick it up for $19.99.

Have a nice day,

The Measuring Light

Thanks to the rush of eco-friendly products, there have been several very quirky lamps made out of old materials.  Some you wouldn’t be caught dead hanging in your home, but you can’t help but admire the designer’s level of creativity.  If you have a thing for craft rooms or measuring tape, then you’ll love this overhead light.  The shade itself is made out of a whole lot of measuring tape.

These come in a couple different versions, there’s the one that shows off the centimeters and then there’s the inches one.  The tape is hand coiled around a bobbin that also doubles as the lamp’s ventilation system and the structural element.  This was recently featured at the Model Citizens Design Exhibition.

Canopi bed

You could call this the canopy bed of the future, provided the future had the white and sterile look of certain dystopian science fiction films.

The purpose of the “canopy” on this Canopi system bed isn’t for aesthetics, but designed to cool the bed itself. Think of it as a cooling blanket for a canopy bed, but the blanket lies on the canopy itself.

Yes, that is the purpose of the big shelf thing over the bed. It is a cool air distributor, and it uses air from under the bed, and then cools it via a wall-mounted air conditioner. The unit costs about $4,500, which is a pretty high price to pay.

This could be one of those products that could be very cool at first, but would result in waking up chilly. It’s like when you mess with that cooler/heater units in hotel rooms. Usually you end up feeling really cold or hot in just a few hours.

Penthouse Cell Phone Watch

According to the Chinavasion website, the Penthouse is the world’s smallest super cell phone. Clearly, super cell phones must be bigger than I thought. I’m assuming that the iPhone isn’t a super cell phone. It has a 1.5 inch touchscreen, full native quad band functionality, Dual SIM card slots, and it is fully unlocked for use of any network of choice.

Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, and it includes a free Bluetooth earset for handsfree communication. It also comes with a “complete multimedia center” that includes a camera, image viewer, video recorder, video player, audio player, sound recorder, and FM radio. Other features include “PDA tools” like a calculator, calendar, and alarm.

All in all, this looks like one of those devices that can do just about anything! All that, and it fits on your wrist. Of course, I’m not ChinaVision, but I really wouldn’t have called this the Penthouse watch. I mean, that’s like the second most-read pornographic magazine. That would be like calling a mobile phone a Playboy phone and not putting the bunny on it. But hey, what is in a name? Perhaps Penthouse simply is a description of the vastness of its top-floor features.

Well, regardless of what it is called, you can get it here for about $113 on the Chinavision site.

Babycakes Cupcake Maker

Babycakes Cupcake Maker

by Ally - on April 26, 2010

Cupcake makers are officially the kitchen gadgets I never knew I needed. Alright, so no one really needs it, but come on they’re mini cupcakes. Plus they pop out fresh out of the maker extremely quickly. This isn’t the first cupcake maker I’ve come across, but this one comes with a whole lot more and it’s even at a slightly better price. Not enough to make it seem as if it might be an inferior product, but just enough to make you jump on the cupcake maker bandwagon a whole lot faster.

Remote Lady Bugs

Lady bugs are our friends in the gardens, so why not bring home a little cheer to your kid with the Wall Climbing RC Lady Bug? This unique remote controlled toy features a cute lady bug design that is capable of defying gravity by climbing all over your walls and even ceilings, and it could freak mom out if she failed to realize that this is a toy. Of course, that could also mean running the risk of her taking a fly swatting and giving your $9.30 purchase a nice hit, good thing it isn’t too expensive to replace either. It clings to the walls via its built-in suction capability on the feet that can be turned on or off at fancy, which is a good thing since it helps you conserve battery power.
